The pH of water affects most chemical and biological processes and is commonly tested in many industries and applications. Serim® MONITOR ™ for pH 5 - 12 Test Strips offers a semi-quantitative measurement of the acidity (hydrogen ion activity) of water.
Water with a low pH is corrosive and can leach metals from pipes and fixtures and cause pitting of equipment and devices in contact with the water. High pH water produces a build-up of scale on pipes and fixtures and lowers the efficiency of water-using appliances and equipment. Water pH also has a significant effect on the efficacy of detergents, disinfectants, and sanitizers.
Water used in hemodialysis should have a pH range between 7.0 and 8.0. Carbon Filtration and Reverse Osmosis devices will not work as effectively at a pH of less than 6 or greater than 8.5. Based on the water source for hemodialysis clinics, the pH may need to monitored every day.
